Art Grant for Junior & Senior Friends schools students
Dear Heads and Art Department Chairs in Friends Upper Schools:
The Friends Council Dandelion Art Grant encourages student interest, initiative, and creativity in the arts. Each year $500 is awarded to a current junior or senior student in a Friends school to be used toward an adventure in learning about and creating wearable art. Wearable art can include jewelry or other personal ornamentation art. The goal of the Dandelion Art Award is to extend a student artist’s exploration and learning experience in the field of wearable art, while giving recognition that will provide support for future educational and career journeys.
This year, we have changed the timing of the program and application format to make the program more accessible to students. The new deadline for proposals for 2008 is November 16, 2007. Awards will be made by December 17. This project work time is January - August 2008, with a report due to the Council by September 15.
Each proposal for a Dandelion Art grant must be submitted jointly by a teacher and a student. In addition to the grant award, the recipient is invited to explore options for public presentation and recognition of their work, which might include local or school exhibitions, a display at one of the Dandelion sites (currently in Ardmore and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and Princeton, New Jersey), or at Friends Center in Philadelphia.
Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of artists and Friends Council staff for projects to be completed in the spring or summer of 2008.
Attached, find the Dandelion Art Grant Guidelines. Please note:
