During the course of the academic year the entire student body participated in many outreach and awareness programs. Much time was spent instilling in the children that ALL children have time, talents, and treasures (not money!) which can be tapped to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The children felt extremely empowered by and proud of their contributions to their local and global communities. Projects performed included:
- Collecting and donating books to the Kanner Center library
- Scholastic reading challenge to donate books to schools and libraries devastated by Katrina
- Goshen Giving boxes given to residents of the Kanner Center
- Handcrafted greeting cards throughout the year form Kanner Center residents
- Disability Awareness Day
- Kindergartners and preschoolers installed a small garden
- Student prepared barbeque for 50 at the Salvation Army dining hall
- Preparing and hosting a fiesta, and donated authentic Mexican foods to a church which assists local Mexican residents
Many of these newly established partnerships will continue with our current school-wide theme, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”
