Full-time (1.0 FTE), Temporary, Exempt (Salaried) 

Sandy Spring Friends School is seeking an Upper School Long-Term Substitute for our History department. The term will begin mid-April, 2019, and end mid-June, 2019. The primary responsibilities include teaching two sections of Ancient World History, two sections of Modern World History, and one section of Economics. The substitute will be a dedicated professional who understands the demands of teaching and is able to work collaboratively with other department members to develop daily lessons that meet the goals of the classes, develop assessments, complete grading, maintain an advisory group and lead advisory group meetings, as well as perform all basic administrative duties (ex. maintain attendance records, accurate grade book, comment writing). Additionally, responsibilities for compensation may be available depending on the candidate’s background, experience and interest. The Long-Term Substitute will be required, on a limited basis, to be on duty after regular school hours beyond the normal school day.

Qualifications include: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in history or closely related field; a master’s degree is desirable. At least one year of full-time high school teaching experience is preferred. The candidate must have strong interpersonal communications skills and solid technology skills for use in instructional and professional tasks. Knowledge of Quaker history and education is desirable, but not required. For all positions, SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view. 

Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom setting.
