Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school located in Northwest Washington, D.C., seeks a full-time Senior Systems and Network Administrator to join the Technology Services team. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining the functionality, security, and uptime of critical technology systems such as the campus wired and wireless networks, virtual machine and storage infrastructure, and communication systems. This position also provides high-level support to our Technology Support Specialists, who help our faculty, staff, and students use technology in their daily work.
Responsibilities include installing, upgrading, and maintaining the functionality of campus technology systems; administering multiple virtual machines (typical Microsoft Windows Server) running critical applications; coordinating system backups, data archiving, and disaster recovery planning; regularly evaluating and maintaining or improving the security posture of campus systems and network infrastructure; and documenting all aspects of the campus systems and network infrastructure and key processes related to its operation and maintenance.
In addition to the day to day technical work, the successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in improving the services offered by the Technology Services team. This will include assisting with new technology investigations, writing and updating service documentation, proposing and implementing process improvements, and working collaboratively with the Academic Technology Coordinators in each school.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, information technology, or an equivalent technical discipline. The successful candidate will have five or more years of experience performing systems and network administration tasks and demonstrated technical breadth or depth in network switching and routing, network services (DNS, DHCP, SNMP), wireless networking, network and systems security, Microsoft Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Online, VM and storage infrastructure, and VoIP telephone systems.
The successful candidate must also demonstrate a history of working collaboratively in a team environment and earning the trust of colleagues and customers by serving them efficiently and effectively. Experience in an academic environment is preferred but not required. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. This position reports to the Chief Information Officer.
