Job Description:

Friends Seminary is an independent Quaker school educating students in grades K-12 in New York City since 1786. The Business Office seeks a Senior Accountant to oversee the daily financial operations of the Business Office. Responsible for accounting operations, budgeting, treasury, debt management, and endowment reporting, this position requires a candidate with outstanding knowledge of accounting principles and practices, exceptional management and communication skills, and high-level analytical ability. The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing a team of two staff accountants and reports to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer. In addition, the Senior Accountant will work closely with other members of the Business Office to support projects benefitting the School. A successful candidate will possess problem-solving savvy, the ability to work collaboratively and independently, strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, managerial experience, and professional presence.


Required Experience

  • 4-year college degree with courses in accounting; CPA and/or master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounting position, preferably non-profit; or 5 years’ of related experience; or 5 or more years of senior accounting services
  • Knowledge and expertise in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT a plus
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Must be detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to get along well with diverse personalities
  • Proven ability to manage both people and projects
  • Self-starter, resourceful, well organized, with the ability to work well under pressure with and without supervision
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Must share strong enthusiasm for the School and willingness to support its mission
