Friends Select School is seeking a part-time Choral Director to conduct Middle School Choruses and Upper School Chorus. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent musicianship, be an effective vocal instructor, a skilled pianist, an experienced choral conductor, and value authentic connections with middle and upper school students. The candidate will have an approach to choosing repertoire that prioritizes cultural competency, develops technical facility in the students, engages their interest, and deepens their empathy. Students will be encouraged towards vocal development appropriate to their individual level through ongoing process and practice. Embracing a growth mindset while maintaining positive energy and strong communication skills will be essential to this position. Broad knowledge of rehearsal techniques and experience with developing voices is a plus. In addition to classes, responsibilities include collaboration with the performing arts department and the wider faculty, cultivating growth in the choral program, and working to further the mission of the school. This position begins September 2019. A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred.
