Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school in Washington, DC, seeks an Instrumental Music teacher for its Middle School division beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
The Instrumental Music teacher will teach instrumental and general music classes for middle school students, in grades 5-8. Specific responsibilities of the position include: teaching instrumental and general music classes in grades 5-8; working with elective 5-6 and a 7-8 performing instrumental groups each once a week; preparing and delivering two performances for families during the school year; supporting the Middle School musical in the spring; writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at meetings; and collaboration with Arts colleagues in the Middle School and other divisions. The successful candidate will be excited about working with Middle School students, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, and have experience with all elements of music instruction.
A Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education is required. A Master’s degree (or higher) is preferred, as is 3-5 years of experience teaching general and / or instrumental music in a school setting, preferably at the middle school level.
