Lansdowne Friends School is searching for a part-time Reading Specialist to begin in the 2019-2020 school year. The reading specialist would provide academic support for students (push in and pull out), and collaborate with faculty and staff on matters pertaining to the differentiation of instruction. Formulating plans for remediation, communicating with faculty and families to include them in the support plan process and providing education on learning support to faculty and parents are also responsibilities of the reading specialist. Additional responsibilities include reading and interpreting psychoeducational testing and editing student progress reports. Certification as a reading specialist or experience with specialized reading interventions such as Wilson or Orton-Gillingham is required. Experience with classroom literacy programs, with conducting student assessments, classroom observations and with participating in family meetings (which may include tutors, psychologists, or therapists) is preferred. Understanding of Quaker and progressive education are also beneficial attributes. The position is a 60 – 80% FTE or roughly 3 to 4 days per week.
