About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and visionary individual to lead the business operation of the school. The Business Manager will set the financial strategy, lead a high performing operations team, and engage with all constituencies of the school. This critical role reports to the GSFS Head of School and is uniquely positioned to advance the organization’s work during a time of transition and innovation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Thinking & Vision Setting

  • Provide vision, direction, and oversight for the business operation of the school to maximize its impact over both the short and long term
  • Establish and maintain organization-wide annual financial goals that are both ambitious and realistic, and aligned with the strategic vision
  • For special situations, conduct financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis; provide recommendations
  • Serve as a thought leader within the broader independent school community; share best practices and key insights from GSFS with other schools

People & Operations Management

  • Manage the business and operations staff of six
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based and departmental accounting
  • Manage tuition receivables, payables, vendor relations, investments
  • Oversee and manage the annual audit
  • Oversee all related aspects of business operations – facilities, contracts, insurance, security, food service, transportation, safety
  • Design the processes, systems and protocols needed to ensure operational excellence
Applicant Requirements:

Candidates should possess the following:

  • 5+ years of business experience in the education or nonprofit sector with management and strategic-planning capability
  • Strong accounting and technology skills; experience with Blackbaud’s Financial Edge software
  • Initiative and ability to work independently; highly organized; high competence with both detailed and big picture tasks
  • Experience designing operational processes and systems
  • Discipline and high energy level, with the ability to execute ambitious plans across all functional areas
  • Commitment to the GSFS mission, purpose, and values, and to its history, culture, programs, people, and constituencies
  • Entrepreneurialism and resourcefulness, with the ability to deliver results
  • Experience recruiting staff, managing employees, and creating cohesive teams; strong interpersonal and time management skills and a collaborative working style
