The Lower School (grades PK3-5) seeks dynamic and experienced teachers for both our 4th and 5th grades. Our program stresses child-centered, inquiry-based, experiential learning. The successful candidate will be flexible, organized, creative and collaborative with a sound understanding of multi-sensory teaching, conflict resolution, classroom management, and the integration of iPad technology across the curriculum. SSFS seeks to nurture the whole child and the ideal candidate will have experience and embrace working with students who represent a broad range of abilities and learning styles. SSFS seeks candidates who value the importance of diversity and can share, teach and appreciate differing points of view.
Qualifications include: a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or closely related field; a master’s degree is desirable. Three years or more teaching experience in an upper elementary classroom in an independent school is preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction, strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and solid technology skills. Familiarity with Responsive Classroom approach would be advantageous. Knowledge of Quaker history and education is desirable, but not required.
Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom setting.
