Full-time, 12 months, Non-Exempt/Hourly
Sandy Spring Friends School is seeking a maintenance technician to support our facilities and transportation operation. The ideal candidate will be skilled in electrical, plumbing, and/or carpentry trade(s), and experienced in basic bus/vehicle maintenance.
Duties include assisting lead mechanic with bus/vehicle maintenance tasks; performing building/equipment repairs; minor construction projects; and general support for the day-to-day operation of a 140 acre campus with 200,000 sq ft of facilities. This position has no supervisory responsibilities and reports to the Director of Facilities & Transportation. The anticipated work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday but schedules can vary. On-call duty and overtime will be required.
Drivers are required to participate in a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, and random screenings post employment.
Qualifications include: A High School diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform all of the duties of the position; basic technology skills in MS Office and other software applications; must have a valid Maryland driver’s license.
Required: (Sandy Spring Friends School will provide training for applicant to achieve certification(s) if necessary)
- Valid Maryland Commercial Driver’s License for School Bus (Class B, P-Passenger and S-School Bus Endorsements) and current Medical Examiner’s Certificate (in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 49 CFR 391.41-391.49).
- Must have valid First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
Essential Physical Requirements: This is a highly physical position requiring but not limited to the following:
- Sitting less than 1 hour per day, standing greater than 7 hours per day, walking 3-7 hours per day ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull greater than 50 pounds, climbing stairs/ladders 1-3 hours per day, moderate bending, excessive squatting and frequent twisting, kneeling, and reaching. Driving is a requirement.
- Also required is normal vision including distance, peripheral, and depth perception, normal visual color discrimination, normal hearing, and speaking/reading/writing English proficiently. Exposure to chemicals, noise levels above 85dB, dust, fumes, odors, humidity, as well as slippery and uneven surfaces should be expected.
