Upper School Ceramics and Photography/Digital Arts Teacher (Full-time) 2016-2017
Sandy Spring Friends School seeks a dynamic, engaging, art teacher for students in grades 9-12. This is a full-time position for the 2016-2017 school year. The position includes the teaching of ceramics and photography/digital arts. In addition to teaching classes, faculty members act as advisors, and may support extra-curricular activities, such as clubs or sports, depending on the candidate’s interests and the needs of the School.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in fine arts or a closely related field and experience teaching high school age students. Ability to maintain a ceramics studio with two kilns (including a gas-fired car kiln) and multiple wheels, and experience with creative glazing techniques required. Understanding of digital arts content and digital design programs preferred. SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view. Applicants should have a desire to work with students making the transition from adolescence to adulthood in a supportive, challenging, college-preparatory environment. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and written communications skills, and basic computer literacy for both administrative and instructional purposes. Knowledge of Quaker beliefs and practices is helpful, but not required.
