Employment Opportunity: We are currently seeking a Middle School Library Assistant to begin late August 2019. The Library Assistant works closely with the Middle School Librarian, supporting students and teachers, and ensuring that the Library is a welcoming place for all. This position requires a degree of independence and initiative and a willingness to actively support a busy, young adult library. 

Status:  Full-time non-exempt during the academic year (late August through mid-June) Hours:  Monday - Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm   Context and Philosophy:  Friends School of Baltimore was founded in 1784. Primary Responsibilities: ● Provide oversight of the Middle School library ● Supervise and assist students  ● Check out materials and equipment ● Provide support for equipment, including: iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, and AV equipment ● Shelve books when they are returned ● Oversee database renewals and record keeping for all three divisional libraries ● Maintain usage statistics for library databases ● Support inventory and weeding processes ● Secure the library space at the end of the day ● Other duties as assigned  

Applicant Requirements:

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:

  • experience working in a school library, or other relevant library or classroom experience
  • interest in and experience working with Middle School-aged students ● knowledge of or interest in Young Adult literature  
  • flexibility and a willingness to collaborate
  • responsiveness and good communication skills
  • strong organization and attention to detail
  • the ability to effectively multitask in a busy library
  • familiarity with Windows/Mac/iOS devices
  • familiarity with G Suite
  • experience using spreadsheets
  • experience with library automation software (preferred)
  • experience with iMovie (preferred)


Bachelor's degree and experience preferred
