Part-Time Parental Leave Position - 6th Grade History Teacher (Sept. 2019 - Jan. 2020)

Brooklyn Friends School seeks a dedicated educator to teach four sections of 6th Grade History and to serve as a Middle School student advisor for an approximately three to four month parental leave opportunity beginning September 1, 2019.

Brooklyn Friends School is a progressive, student-centered environment. The ideal candidate would be a flexible, culturally competent educator who is capable of partnering with the 6th grade History teacher in the beginning of the school year to prepare to take lead responsibility for a course focused on the development of religions across the world -- with particular respect to advanced civilizations of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Responsibilities will include daily lesson planning, grading and feedback, report writing, and serving as a Middle School Advisor to eight or nine students. Advisors oversee students' progress in all classes, serve as the primary contact with parents, and participate in other responsibilities such as overnight trips, leading anti-bias and social-justice activities, and facilitating service learning.

This is an excellent opportunity for an educator who is seeking part-time experience as a lead teacher and/or wanting to investigate teaching in this age range. Support will be provided initially from the 6th grade History teacher and will continue by way of the Chair of the Middle School History Department and Assistant Head of Middle School for Academics.
