Job Description:

10-month position, 5 days a week, beginning August 27, 2019. Reports to Director of Support Services and Middle School Division Head.


As a member of the Middle School guidance team, the Counselor collaborates and works closely with the Head and Assistant Head of Middle School, Director of Support Services, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Learning Specialists and the School Nurse. The Middle School Counselor promotes the social, emotional, educational, and health needs of students in the Middle School.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Connects well with Middle School students (ages 9-14) and their families.
  • Meets with students individually and in small groups.
  • Meets with parents and teachers as needed for consultation and support.
  • Facilitates various support and affinity groups for students, including Banana Splits (children living with one parent for a variety of reasons).
  • Creates learning plans for students with neuropsychological or psychoeducational testing on file.
  • Works with teachers, students, administrators, learning specialists, and parents to make these school plans useful for students.
  • Collaborates with outside practitioners, including tutors, therapists, and evaluators to make referrals and follow up on student care.
  • Helps to develop and teaches the Health and Wellness curriculum in the Middle School.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion on individual students, their needs, and topical programming as needed.
  • Attends after school faculty meetings, grade level team meetings, case conferences, and school gatherings.
  • Hosts talks about parenting, social and emotional well-being, learning, mental health issues, and adolescent development for faculty and parents.
Applicant Requirements:


  • Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW) or psychologist with at least 1-3 years post-licensure in either counseling, clinical, school, health, community or a combination of these disciplines.
  • Experience working in a school or clinical setting with students aged 9-14.
  • Competency in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work.
  • Strong public speaking, organizational, and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to understand and interpret psychoeducational evaluations and be able to analyze and communicate test results and recommendations verbally and in writing.
  • Training and experience in CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, evidenced-based treatment preferred.
