The Assistant Teacher is a part-time salary position as scheduled by the Head of School in coordination with the Assistant Teacher and the Lead Teacher. The Assistant Teacher works for 15-29 hours/week (as assigned) for approximately 36 school weeks. Because of the nature of the teaching profession, this position is exempt from overtime.
The Head of School is responsible for assuring that weekly schedules are met and that the Assistant Teacher is working in a fair and equitable manner as directed. The Assistant Teacher reports to the Head of School, who is responsible for the teacher's professional development and evaluation. Assistant Teachers are guided by Lead Teachers to help implement and in some cases design curriculum. Assistant Teachers supervise children, teach lessons, work with small groups of students, prepare materials, collaborate on assessments, and perform other duties as requested by the Lead Teacher or Head of School.
The Assistant Teacher works the school year as defined in the Employee Handbook. In addition to classroom teaching, the Assistant Teacher is compensated for and expected to:
Attend the all faculty inservices;
Attend the all-faculty meetings during the school year;
Plan with the Lead Teacher;
Attend Back-to-School Night and other evening events as directed;
Facilitate class field trips.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences.
