Quaker Schools Learning Consortium

JUNE 21-22, 2018 @ Friends School of Baltimore

Our time together will be similar to our last Quaker Schools Learning Consortium (formerly Symposium) gathering: organizing ourselves around the work priorities identified in 2016 and 2017.  This year, however, we will be joined by Sarah Hofstra and HLC who will bring HLC’s expertise and platform to bear upon any plans that we make.

OUR CHARGE:  to develop a work plan that leads to the piloting of one to three online courses amongst participating schools by Fall 2018 (so, we’re actually still on track to fulfill last summer’s mission!).

OUR WORK TO GET THERE:  At our final session last year, four groups presented next steps for the Learning Consortium, including for particular courses.  The work fell under the following headings:

MISSION AND VISION – Each of the summer 2017 work groups developed a potential mission statement for the consortium.  The mission statement that received preference reads as follows:

The Quaker Schools Learning Consortium will broaden the scope of individual school offerings by uniting Quaker schools around the world which will raise the national visibility of Friends schools.

PROTOTYPING AND ORGANIZING THE CONSORTIUM – Each of our four groups either considered the logistics of moving forward as a consortium (decision-making, teacher training, certification of courses, etc) or developed plans for potential course offerings for students or teachers (a social entrepreneurship class and an online extension of Educators New to Quakerism).

A link will be provided to share the document that provides an outline of last year’s work. This year time should be spent considering the work from 2017 and considering what of that work should move forward with us as we build a relationship with HLC.  This will also be an opportunity for schools to hear more from Sarah Hofstra and HLC. So, bring your questions. As with last year, the idea of this two-day meeting is to move the idea of the Quaker Schools Learning Consortium into the day-today operation of our schools.
