Gender Identity Workshop: First Steps Towards an Inclusive Classroom

Betsy Torg, Friends Council on Education Director of Development and Communications, provided a professional development workshop entitled “Supporting Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Students: First Steps to An Inclusive Classroom” as part of Haddonfield Friends School’s faculty in-service day on January 25, 2019. The workshop centered the voices and experiences of transgender young students through real life stories and video, reviewed terminology and language around gender identity, and engaged faculty in conversation and discussion about what steps they might consider in creating more inclusive classrooms.
